CRAFTED IN OKAYAMA

Since 2010. Okayama, Japan.

THE LOOM
01

THE LOOM

KURO denim is woven on vintage shuttle looms in Okayama, Japan. These narrow-width looms produce fabric at just 15 metres per hour — compared to 100+ metres on modern projectile looms. The result is a denser, more textured fabric with natural irregularity that improves with every wear.

THE INDIGO
02

THE INDIGO

Each thread is dipped through natural indigo vats using the traditional rope dyeing method. The yarn passes through the dye bath 12 to 16 times, building layers of colour that fade uniquely over time. No two pairs of KURO jeans age the same way.

THE HAND
03

THE HAND

Every pair passes through the hands of specialized artisans — from cutting to chain-stitching to final inspection. A single pair of SIGNATURE JEANS requires over 80 individual steps and the expertise of more than 15 craftspeople.

THE DETAIL
04

THE DETAIL

The selvedge edge. The hidden rivets. The chain-stitched hem. These are not decorations — they are evidence of process. Each detail exists because the craft demands it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where is KURO denim made?+

All KURO denim is designed in Tokyo and manufactured in Okayama, Japan — the country's premier denim-producing region. The fabrics are woven at heritage mills using vintage shuttle looms, and each garment is assembled by specialized artisans.

What is selvedge denim?+

Selvedge (self-edge) denim is fabric woven on traditional shuttle looms. The finished edge prevents unravelling and is a hallmark of premium denim. KURO uses exclusively selvedge denim for its SIGNATURE JEANS line.

How is Japanese denim different from other denim?+

Japanese denim is distinguished by its use of vintage shuttle looms, natural indigo dyeing, and meticulous attention to finishing. Okayama mills produce some of the world's most sought-after fabrics, known for rich texture and beautiful fading characteristics.

How should I care for my KURO jeans?+

For the best fade pattern, wear your KURO jeans for at least 6 months before the first wash. When washing, turn inside out, use cold water, and hang dry. Avoid machine drying to preserve the fabric's integrity.

What makes KURO different from other Japanese denim brands?+

KURO combines Okayama's artisanal denim heritage with Tokyo's contemporary design sensibility. The brand's philosophy — WEAR THE CULTURE — reflects a commitment to jeans that are both crafted and modern, rooted in tradition but designed for today.
