Shuttle-loomed selvedge denim. Small-batch production. A philosophy of restraint.

Our Story

Our Story

A Japanese denim brand,
rooted in Okayama.

KURO was founded in 2010 in Okayama, the heart of Japanese denim manufacturing. From the first pair, the brand has been built around a single idea — that denim is a cultural object, and that its making is a craft to be protected. Every pair is cut and sewn in partnerships with small ateliers that have spent generations in the indigo trade.

Craftsmanship

Craftsmanship

Shuttle looms,
human hands.

Our selvedge denim is woven on vintage shuttle looms — slow machines that breathe through the fabric, producing a dense, uneven weave impossible to replicate at scale. Dyeing is done in rope form to layer the indigo; sewing, washing, and finishing stay inside Japan. The result is denim that ages with its wearer rather than wearing out.

Philosophy

Philosophy

A philosophy
of restraint.

We produce in small, deliberate runs. We share our makers, visit our factories, and choose partners whose values line up with ours. The Remake series extends the life of existing garments through handwork, turning what could be waste into pieces meant to outlast trend. Sustainability for us is a long, open conversation — not a label.
